Western Jaguar: Eight Albums of Bedroom Pop From British Columbia, and 'Exterior' Looks Outward

Some artists spend a decade chasing a scene. Western Jaguar spent it building one in a room in British Columbia, one album at a time. Western Jaguar solo project, running since 2013, and nearly everything about it happens at home: the writing, the playing, the recording, the mixing, the mastering. What comes out the other side is polished indie pop with shimmering guitars and stacked harmonies, the kind of music that sounds like a full band until you read the credits and find one name repeated line after line.

This guy’s catalog is deep for any project… let alone one recorded in a bedroom. Kaleidoscope, his seventh full-length, arrived in November 2025, a ten track record with two bonus songs that swings from the heavy guitars of "Hornets" to the pop shimmer of "Pity Party." Before that came Vacationland in 2024, and a run of earlier records stretching back to 2013. It is a steady, self-built body of work, released on his own Jaguar Sounds imprint with no machine behind it.

Now the eighth album is on the way. Exterior is due January 22, 2027, and it is up for pre-order on Bandcamp with four tracks streaming now. The artist describes it as the first Western Jaguar record that looks outward, taking on our relationship with technology, the pull of politics, the search for upward mobility, and the harder question of where anyone belongs right now. The sound stays bright and melodic. The lyrics, this time, keep glancing at the news.

The clearest sign of the turn is "Love Your Country," a single that swaps the daydream haze for droning guitars and a chorus about a country busy self-destructing. It is the most confrontational thing he has released, and it still moves like a pop song.

Start here:

  • "Love Your Country" (2026), the new direction in one track, all teeth under the melody
  • "Laps Around Your House" (2026), the upbeat, guitar-driven side, circling an ex's street and a stuck thought
  • "Pity Party" (from Kaleidoscope), a should-be radio single hiding on an indie album
  • "Helsinki" (from Kaleidoscope), a slow-built collaboration with Iceland's Kanilrós and fellow BC artist Ted Kim

His own bio name-checks The 1975, The War on Drugs, and Beach Fossils, and you can hear all three in the balance he strikes: warmth up front, atmosphere underneath, a steady pulse carrying the whole thing. Exterior lands January 22, 2027, and the four songs out now suggest the most focused Western Jaguar record yet.
