Jae Smiles: Tuning In With His Angels on 'angel realm'

Soba by Jae Smiles

Sometimes, surfing social media puts exactly the right stranger in front of you. Jae Smiles is a musician from Moscow, Idaho, and his track "Seeing the Beauty of It All" stopped me in my tracks. What got me to listen was the hand drawn visualizer. What got me to stay way the energetic, airy, ethereal chords, and the driving drum beat. This piece of music was released just 3 days ago (on October 25, 2026).

So, that track lead me to Jae's Bandcamp where I landed on angel realm', which comes with a question from Jae himself: tuning in with my angels, what does this make you feel, see, hear, think?

That question is a good way into his world. Jae makes music and visuals himself. His recent video for "seeing the beauty of it all" features his hand-drawn character Soba, just vibing and seeing the beauty of it all. There is something disarming about an artist working at that scale, drawing his own characters and releasing his music name-your-price on Bandcamp, asking listeners what they feel rather than telling them what to think.

"angel realm" sits alongside a small, deliberate catalog on Bandcamp. "contemplation" arrived earlier, on March 5, 2024, and "soul call" and "e n c h a n t e d" round out the four tracks currently streaming there. It is a catalog that rewards sitting with it rather than skimming it, music made for tuning in rather than tuning out.

What it sounds like

If you wanna zone out and go hand out in another dimension for a while, Jae's music is definitely an appropriate soundtrack to do that. Fans of Vaporwave, Synthwave, and Chillout music will feel right at home with some pleasant surprises.

Start here

  1. "angel realm". The track that started this post, a quiet question of a song about tuning in with your angels.
  2. "contemplation". The earlier track, from March 2024, and the other end of the same thread.
  3. "seeing the beauty of it all". His recent self-made video, hand-drawn, with Soba front and center.
