Aja Adam: The NYC R&B Artist Who Directs Her Own Visual World on 'Quatre'
Some artists hire a team to build their world. Aja Adam builds hers herself. The New York City singer, songwriter, and producer writes her songs, produces them, and directs the visuals that come with them. Her fourth album, Quatre, is out now on Memory Lane Records, and it is the fullest version of that one-woman universe so far.
Aja found us the right way. We put out a call on Threads: "I'm all about music but I love visual art too. I wanna see your art!!!" She answered with the "Hotel Room" video and a line that could be this blog's motto: "I just released the music video for one of my songs, shot and edited by me. I don't use AI for my art!" Her official bio puts it plainly: she belongs to "a rare class of modern artists who write, produce, and visually direct their own universe," with a clean, polished visual world wrapped around the songs.
The visuals are hers, too
Look at the credits for the "Hotel Room" video, which premiered on YouTube on October 22, 2026. Director: Aja Adam. Producer: Aja Adam and Brian Outlaw. Director of photography: Aja Adam. Editor: Aja Adam. She shot it herself on a Panasonic Lumix GH4 and stars in it, too. This is not a singer showing up to a set somebody else built. The camera work is part of the songwriting.
Talking about "Hotel Room," Aja has described it as "a fantasy: I'm bold, I say what I want, and it translates perfectly," adding that the song "challenged me to have some fun while still telling a story."

Four albums, counted in French
The album titles tell their own story. She debuted with UNE in 2017, followed it with DEUX in 2020, then TROIS in 2024, a record her Spotify bio says found a sound reminiscent of 90s R&B. Quatre landed on January 30, 2026, co-produced with longtime collaborator Brian Outlaw, and "Hotel Room" was recorded at Memory Lane Recording Studio. The photo at the top of this post comes from her site: Aja in black and white, MIDI keyboard in hand, walking past a wall chalked with every track title on the record.

What it sounds like
Her bio describes an immersive blend of R&B and soul anchored by rich vocal textures, warm piano, and precise production, with deeply personal storytelling at the center. She draws on classic soul icons but keeps a contemporary, self-produced edge. Across Quatre's twelve tracks she says she was exploring diverse melodies and rhythms, making something to help listeners claim their power and tell their own stories.
