The record first. Valo valtaa vielä kaiken, the debut album from Helsinki duo Sisar, arrives tomorrow, November 6, on Svart Records, and it is the rare debut that already sounds like a band with a settled idea of itself. Eight songs, sung in Finnish, built on the collision the duo name in every piece of press around them: the dream pop of Cocteau Twins, the industrial weight of Godflesh, the alt-metal undertow of Deftones. On paper that reads like a dare. On record it reads like common sense.

What makes it work is the balance. Nora Moberg and Remi Rousselle keep the vocals up front and beautiful, then set them against heavy guitars and a bleak, insistent drum machine. The melodies are pop melodies, the kind that stick after one listen, but the frame around them is dense and unapologetic. Four of the eight tracks are streaming now as pre-order singles, and they map the record well. "Nälkä" came first, back in May, all coiled tension and release. "Aurinko nousee illalla" stretches past five minutes and lets the guitar wall do the talking. "Lohtu" is the comedown, softer and more open. And "Liekki", the newest single, released September 28 with a video, is the sharpest of the four: a short, bright song the band frames as a small rebellion against whatever stifles life.

The themes running through the album are the big ones, and the band does not dress them up. Nature, love, death, change. The label calls the music dark and hopeful, heavy and naive, and that contradiction is the point. Sisar sing about mortality in a language most readers of the Pixanami Indie Music Blog will not speak, and it hardly matters. The feeling lands anyway, which is the test of a record like this.

The duo have been building toward this quietly and quickly. Finnish broadcaster Yle picked them for its Tulevaisuuden tekijät list of makers of the future, and for the YleX Noste roster of rising artists, back in February 2026. On stage they expand to a trio, heavy and delicate at once, with choruses cutting through the wall of sound.
