Bo Staloch: Alt-Folk Coming-of-Age on 'Too Big, Too Big'
Some artists announce a new chapter. Bo Staloch sounds like he is living inside one. The 21-year-old singer-songwriter, born in Austin and based in Nashville, releases his eight-track EP Too Big, Too Big on November 6 via Capitol Records, and it arrives at the exact moment his career tips from promising to undeniable.
Staloch built his audience the unglamorous way. Through 2025 he toured with John Vincent III, Houndmouth, and Ashe, opened for Zach Bryan at London's Hyde Park, and made his Lollapalooza debut. He also spent the past year posting stripped-back acoustic recordings and covers on TikTok. Earlier this month he played both weekends of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and in early 2026 he co-headlined an acoustic tour of Europe and the UK with Abby Powledge.
Too Big, Too Big was written and recorded over several months at producer Brad Cook's Puff City home studio in Durham, North Carolina. Cook, known for his work with Bon Iver and Waxahatchee, gathered a small band of ringers: Megafaun's Phil Cook, Twin Peaks guitarist Colin Croom, Hippo Campus guitarist Nathan Stocker, Bon Iver drummer Matt McCaughan, and Mipso violinist Libby Rodenbough. The result blends earthy alt-folk, baroque pop, and dynamic indie rock, anchored by Staloch's distinctive vocal.
The title reflects the weight of approaching a new chapter in life, and the songs live up to it: young love, changing friendships, and hope in difficult moments.
What he sounds like
If Bon Iver's hush, Hippo Campus's lift, and Waxahatchee's plainspoken storytelling are all in your rotation, Staloch will feel familiar without feeling derivative. His songs move between quiet confession and full-band release, and the arrangements know when to get out of the vocal's way.
Live
Staloch heads out on a North American headline tour in support of the EP, kicking off February 3 in Nashville and wrapping March 27 in Houston, with stops including Atlanta, New York, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Start here
- "Hers" (October 2026): the latest single, and the EP's emotional center of gravity. It captures the complicated shift from friendship to romance, building from warm, gentle melodies into a wave of raw emotion.
- "From a Different Age" (July 2026): a loud-quiet-loud arrangement that earned Rolling Stone praise after Staloch performed it at the publication's Stateside Fourth of July festival in New York.
- "I Won't Be There Waiting For You": a song about a fading friendship, and the clearest preview of the EP's coming-of-age themes.
- "Masks": the piano-led, more restrained side of the record.
Then mark November 6 for the full eight tracks.
